Baron Beaverbrook (William Maxwell Aitken, 1879–1964) was a Canadian-born British statesman, influential newspaper publisher, and close advisor to Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II. In 1940, he was appointed Minister of Aircraft Production, a role in which he oversaw the rapid manufacturing of warplanes during the Battle of Britain. His leadership was critical in ensuring the Royal Air Force had the resources needed to defend the skies against Nazi Germany. A powerful and sometimes controversial figure, Beaverbrook wielded immense influence both in media and government, combining political savvy with industrial urgency.
