A key architect of the U.S. Army Air Forces, Andrews was instrumental in shaping America’s early air power strategy prior to and during World War II. As commander of the Caribbean Defense Command at the time of this issue, he played a vital role in preparing U.S. military air operations in the Western Hemisphere. Andrews would later be remembered as one of the top U.S. commanders tragically killed in action during the war.
