Charles Francis Adams (1866–1954) was a prominent Boston businessman, philanthropist, and member of the distinguished Adams family, which included two U.S. Presidents. A great-grandson of President John Quincy Adams, he played a significant role in American cultural and educational institutions during the early to mid-20th century. He served as Secretary of the Navy under President Herbert Hoover and was instrumental in modernizing the fleet during the interwar period. By 1946, he remained an influential figure in Boston’s civic and financial circles and was widely respected for his leadership and public service.
