Joseph N. Pew Jr. (1886–1963) was a powerful force in both American industry and Republican politics. As an executive at Sun Oil Company (Sunoco), founded by his father, Pew helped shape the American energy sector. At the same time, he played a key behind-the-scenes role in national politics. By 1940, Pew was one of the most influential Republican fundraisers and strategists, using his resources and organizational reach to steer the party during a critical election year. He was known for his staunch opposition to the New Deal and his advocacy for conservative, business-friendly policies.
