Eddie Arcaro (1916–1997) is considered one of the greatest jockeys in the history of American horse racing. By 1948, Arcaro had already secured his reputation as a dominant force on the track, known for his tactical skill, competitive edge, and numerous victories in major races. He is best known for being the only jockey to win the Triple Crown twice—first with Whirlaway in 1941 and again with Citation in 1948, the same year this issue was published. Arcaro's career included five Kentucky Derby wins, six Preakness Stakes victories, and six Belmont Stakes triumphs, making him a towering figure in the sport.
