Robert A. Lovett (1895–1986) was serving as Under Secretary of State at the time of this issue’s publication, playing a central role in the postwar reconstruction of Europe and the early Cold War strategy. A former Assistant Secretary of War for Air during World War II, Lovett became one of the principal architects behind the Marshall Plan, the U.S. initiative to aid European recovery and counter Soviet influence. Widely respected for his intellect and administrative skill, Lovett later served as Secretary of Defense under President Truman, contributing to the formation of the modern U.S. national security framework.
