Barbara Ann Scott (1928–2012) was a figure skating sensation and a national hero in Canada. By early 1948, she was preparing for the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, where she would go on to win Olympic gold, becoming the first Canadian to win an Olympic title in figure skating. Known for her grace, discipline, and elegance on the ice, she had already won the European and World Championships by the time this issue was released. Nicknamed “Canada’s Sweetheart,” Scott became a symbol of postwar national pride and remains one of the most celebrated athletes in Canadian history.
