Sir Alan F. Brooke (1883–1963), later known as Field Marshal The Viscount Alanbrooke, was one of Britain's most important military strategists during World War II. At the time of this issue’s publication, Brooke had just been appointed Commander-in-Chief of Home Forces, tasked with preparing Britain for a possible German invasion during the critical months of the Battle of Britain. He would later become Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) and Winston Churchill’s principal military advisor. Brooke played a key role in shaping Allied strategy, earning widespread respect for his planning and organizational leadership.
