This August 12, 1941 issue of Look Magazine features a striking cover photograph of the Douglas B-19, taken by Lawrence Kronquist. At the time, the B-19 was the largest military airplane in the world, weighing 82 tons with a remarkable range of 7,750 miles and the capacity to carry up to 125 people. As the U.S. ramped up defense efforts on the eve of entering World War II, this aircraft represented both military ambition and technological prowess.
